Part 2 of my recent Singapore trip is dedicated to their beautiful and lush gardens which left a lasting impression. Given the large number of high-rise buildings and modern shopping centres, Singapore has the potential to be a concrete jungle, thankfully this is not the case. Masses of flowers and foliage show up in the most unlikely places, softening the greyness and austerity of the many skyscrapers. The tropical flowers and colours were a real treat for a Melbourne girl!

Gardens By The Bay:
This public garden called Supertree Grove is like the set from the movie Avatar! Recently opened in 2011, this unbelievable space is like nothing I’ve ever seen. These 16 storey structures are illuminated at night and covered in a variety of tropical climbing plants.
We were so amazed by these gardens that we returned the next day to see them in daylight.
Another part of Gardens By The Bay were the 2 domes: The Cloud Forest and the Flower Dome. These enormous greenhouse structures are engineering feats, with no internal pillars or columns. The Cloud Forest houses a 35 metre man-made mountain covered in lush vegetation with the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. Visitors are able to experience this true to life mountainous rainforest via the ascending walkways which eventually lead to the top of the canopy.
The Flower Dome replicates plants and tress that grow in a cool and dry Mediterranean climate. Unfortunately we just missed the Tulip Festival in bloom.
The Singapore Orchid Garden is a major feature of their Botanic Gardens. As a lover of orchids, this was high on my must-see list. The colour displays were beautiful.
Bindi Irwin even had this orchid below named after her. Although if it were me I might have requested something a bit more colourful!
Singapore proved to be a truly relaxing and family-friendly holiday. It is safe and clean and had so much to offer for all of us. I personally also loved the weather, especially the beautiful balmy nights.
