There is such a wide range of outdoor fabrics available now but not many people would consider them for indoor use too. At our beach house, we recovered our old Freedom sofas in a plain blue with white piping, all in outdoor fabric.
Outdoor fabrics are usually made from solution dyed acrylic. They are perfect for indoor areas that receive direct sun as their UV protection qualities will reduce fading. Probably the biggest plus for me is that the sofas are stain repellant and easy to clean. The kids can sit on them with damp bathers and they dry quickly. Sand and surface dirt also brush off.
I was so convinced of the benefits of outdoor fabric that I also used it in the white slipcovers of my armchairs.
And the striped ottoman. These furniture pieces are four years old and are still in great condition. They are soft to sit on and don’t feel stiff or scratchy like some commercial outdoor fabrics.
Other applications for outdoor fabrics indoors include barstools, window seats and upholstery for children’s rooms.
Here are some great outdoor fabric options. There is such a great range and they are not all bright and stripes!
