I must admit, an Occasional or Accent chair is one of my favourite decorating items. My perfect occasional chair has some crucial features. It must be comfy and look appealing. It needs to be a one of a kind piece. And my top requirement is that it is upholstered in a gorgeous fabric. This is one I had custom made for the Guest Room at the beach house (I’m still searching for that perfect something to hang on the wall above the chair).
Generally seen in a bedroom corner, study or nook of a living area, the perfect occasional chair creates that ‘interior designer’ look. It is a great way to introduce a fabric you love and is often the piece that can bring together a decorating theme. Here are some of my favourites.
Although in a plain fabric, this shade of pink packs a punch in this reading nook.

Occasional chairs add personality and are a great addition to a child’s bedroom. They double as the perfect spot to curl up with a book.

I love that an occasional chair can be a stand alone piece. It is an opportunity to use a fun, patterned fabric.
And another excuse for a pretty cushion.

I find it frustrating that in Australia, it is hard to come by unique occasional chairs in retail stores. They seem to be in abundance in the U.S. In saying that, I absolutely love Diane Bergeron’s custom range available at Arthur G. Here are some other finds.
Do you have any tips on where to buy quality Occasional Chairs in Australia?
