My usual Tuesday blogpost is a day early as today I’m off on a short break to NYC. Mr Gallerie B has a conference there this week so I’m tagging along (thanks Mum and Dad for minding the girls!). Friday’s Favourites will take a break but I’ll be posting updates on Facebook and Instagram. I am hoping to get some inspiration for the new build and plan to visit some design showrooms. In the meantime I wanted to share some photos of a fantastic event I attended last week.
The launch of Melbourne Fashion Illustrator Megan Hess‘ second book, The Dress, was held at Lamington Drive Gallery. I admit I’m a bit of a Megan Hess groupie. She has worked for some of the world’s top department stores and designers. I love how her sketches throw back to old-world glamour. The Dress is a collation of Megan’s favourite gowns that have captured a moment in time for one reason or another.
Megan spoke of her all-time favourite dress (a tough choice!) being the iconic Givenchy gown worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys.
Some of her other favourites which feature in the book are the pink dress Marilyn Monroe wore in Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.
And who can forget the transformation Julia Roberts’ character Vivian made when she stepped out in this red gown in Pretty Woman? The original plan was for the dress to be black but the costume designer Marilyn Vance convinced the producers that a vibrant, red gown was more suitable to Vivian’s fiery personality.
This Versace gown was worn by Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie in the last episode of Sex and the City. It retailed at $79,000!
A few select sketches are available to purchase as Limited Edition prints from the gallery.
Megan has also done a collaboration with Glasshouse Candles for their Limited Edition ‘Night Before Christmas’ candle. The goodie bag I received was filled with lots of treats, including the gorgeous candle.
Check out the Megan Hess website for her full range of products. I also have my eye on the amazing range of rugs she designed for Designer Rugs (here).
