Inside Our Latest Modern Farmhouse Design

I am thrilled to reveal one of our latest projects, a new build Modern Farmhouse in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. I worked alongside a collaborative team of  Jake Barrow Architects and Ahead Building to bring this single level family home to life. The Modern Farmhouse style was so well suited to this large corner block with a beautiful outlook to a backdrop of established trees. Modern Farmhouse style has a clean line and simple aesthetic that is still timeless and tailored. I would love to show you how we incorporated this aesthetic into the interior.

Kitchen

The beautiful open plan space really is the heart of the home. We specified shaker profile cabinetry in a warm neutral tone for the perimeter cabinets and then opted for an inky blue island. The bench top and splashback are a hardwearing porcelain designed to mimic stone and a practical option for our client’s busy family. We introduced texture in the rattan barstools.

Brushed brass handles and tapware elevate the space and complement the warm timber tones of the flooring, beams and feature timber pantry door. The overall feel of the space is neutral and airy. Sheer curtains add an extra layer of softness.

One of my favourite features is this beautiful timber door into the deep navy pantry.

Living

A modern farmhouse style embraces comfort and warmth and this was our focus in furnishing the Living Room. The exposed timber beams and stone fireplace create such a feature in the open plan living/dining area. As a result, we kept the furniture neutral and inviting with a deep cushioned sofa, textured rug and timber coffee table.

Laundry

The Laundry certainly wasn’t an afterthought and we made sure our client would enjoy spending time in there (as much as possible!). We introduced a classic element to any modern farmhouse, the farmhouse sink. We brought the outdoor green tones in by using a deep green colour for the cabinetry. The porcelain floor tiles provide a natural stone look. Brushed brass finishes were continued throughout the home.

Bathroom

A modern farmhouse bathroom balances serene, spa-inspired comfort with everyday practicality. We used a natural stone look floor tile to help create that feel. The green feature border tile references other green accents throughout the home.

Powder Room

We love pushing the creative boundaries a bit more in a Powder Room space and were thrilled when our client was open to using this gorgeous blush linen-look vinyl wallpaper. The other fittings such tapware, handles and cabinetry are consistent with materials used in other parts of the home.

Main Bedroom

Soaring ceilings and oversized windows give the Main Bedroom the real sense of a retreat. Textured layers and a soft colour palette create a relaxed elegance.

Study

A timeless mix of navy, brass, and timber helped us shape an inviting and elegant study.
