When I am sourcing a special piece for a client, I love to incorporate bone inlay. There is so much to love about these unique and bespoke furnishings. They introduce colour and pattern which can really bring a space to life. With their classic/contemporary aesthetic, I also see them as timeless, something that you could pass down to your kids. But not everyone is confident in bringing colour and pattern into their homes.
Here are my tips on How To Style With Bone Inlay.
My love affair with bone inlay started when I purchased my first piece, this navy dresser. When I was designing our new home, I knew exactly where I wanted it to go and made sure this wall was wide enough to accommodate it. I have kept the surrounding accessories and artwork neutral so that the colour and pattern aren’t competing with anything else. Not only is this dresser one of my favourite pieces of furniture, it is practical for storing tablecloths and tea towels.

In this client’s entrance makeover, I needed to introduce some interest and the pattern of this black console was perfect.

I wanted this guest bedroom to be fun but still practical. The turquoise colour of these bedside tables complement the artwork and cushions. Also the two drawers provide a handy storage for visitors.

If you aren’t confident to invest in a larger bone inlay piece, there are smaller options available that can still provide an impact. This striped drum stool adds a soft colour and geometric pattern to my living room. It is light enough to move around the room as the perfect side table.

In a neutral space such as a bathroom, a bone inlay mirror can provide a point of interest and add colour. Accessories can then be added to co-ordinate and bring cohesion to the space.

Bone inlay accessories are my ‘go-to’ pieces for styling. A tray is perfect for coralling items on a coffee table.

Or a box adds a point of interest on a hallway console or a coffee table.

And is the perfect storage option for TV remotes!
