This week I am sharing a design feature that I love on a house exterior, stone. I started noticing that there was a trend developing on my House Exterior Pinterest Board. Stonework was popping up in different ways on house exteriors I was pinning. I’m not sure what it is I’m drawn to. Maybe the reference to cosy cottages (although many of my dream homes are far from cottages in size!). Perhaps it is the gorgeous grey tones that always catch my eye, or the additional texture it brings. Here are some ways stone can be used on an exterior.
Around the base of the house. I love the contrast against the white paint colour.
Even when used for retaining walls and surrounding paving, stone adds another element of interest.
My favourite feature is when stone is used for the chimney.
In my effort to bring a touch of these Hamptons-style ‘cottages’ to our new home, I have included a stone chimney in the exterior. The same stone cladding will be repeated in the retaining walls in the front and back garden. I still haven’t locked in a product but am considering this dry stone from Eco Outdoor.
I now just need to be patient and cross my fingers that my stone chimney looks OK in the Melbourne burbs!
