There is something special about a fireplace in winter that draws me in. As someone who feels the cold, it’s like a magnet! Unfortunately our 1980s home doesn’t have one but we do have a Coonara wood fire at the beach house and it is our winter gathering point. There’s nothing better than having a glass of red by the fire, while reading a good magazine or listening to music. The kids of course love the marshmallow toasting while my husband secretly loves the wood chopping factor.
As we are getting used to the interesting quirks that come with our new house, I am already dreaming of the build. A fireplace is definitely on the list. I am still undecided on wood or gas but am quickly learning that are many variables to the aesthetic.
I have found some great inspiration on Pinterest. These first few images show a black metal ‘facing’ with timber mantle.
This is the same lounge room in the daytime. I love the built-in joinery surrounding the fireplace.
This home owner is lucky enough to have a fireplace in their informal living area too.
More beautiful joinery.
There is also the option of a marble tile for the facing.
I love this hexagonal tile which is very ‘on-trend’.
Larger marble tiles are another elegant surround option.
Then there’s the option of the raised hearth.
What are your favourite elements to the perfect fireplace?
