Out and About: Bushrangers Bay

I hadn’t planned on writing a post about Bushrangers Bay but after our impromptu visit last weekend, I wanted to share this hidden gem.  The walking path to the Bay is accessed from Boneo Road, near Flinders, on the Mornington Peninsula. It is just over one hours drive from Melbourne. The scenery along the way is breathtaking. Starting with the adjacent green farmland to the spectacular wild coastline and secluded beach. I didn’t realise that the walk was 2.5km both ways but the kids managed well, with some surprising animal sightings along the way to keep them going.

Amazing to see kangaroos in their natural environment.

The path is fairly flat with a section of stairs leading down to the beach, so not too strenuous!

Pristine grassland with a lone tree in the middle.

The beach is rugged and beautiful. Swimming is not advised due to the unpredictable currents, not to mention freezing temperatures!  It would be a lovely spot for a summer picnic.

Miss 9 loved exploring.

A wedge tailed eagle (or so I’m told, not too good on the bird knowledge!).

I would highly recommend the Bushrangers Bay walk for a family day trip from Melbourne. The beautiful scenery and the native Australian wildlife also make it a great destination for International visitors.
