Every now and then on Gallerie B, I will be featuring a place I come across that I find beautiful or inspiring.
Last weekend we were invited to celebrate a close friends daughters first birthday in the beautiful surrounds of the Como House mansion. I have grown up in Melbourne but have been oblivious to this amazing venue, which is only a short distance from the city centre. The historic mansion was built in 1847 and was home to the Armytages, one of Australia’s wealthiest pioneer families. The architecture is mixture of Italianate and Australian Regency.
(Would love to paint those shutters and door a duck egg blue!)
Although I didn’t get to see inside the home, which apparently still houses the original furniture, the garden and surrounding areas are equally spectacular. The party was set up in front of this fountain and next to this ancient Moreton Bay Fig tree which kept the kids very busy, testing their climbing skills.
The beautiful pink birthday cake and roses fit perfectly within the setting.
Another hidden gem was discovered beyond the hedges, the recently renovated Stables of Como cafe. Set in the original stable building the cafe is true to its origins with a rustic charm and the extensive menu makes it a great venue for a breakfast or lunch.
Details for the Como House and Gardens are here.
The Stables can also put together a picnic basket to enjoy in your favourite garden spot. Will have to keep that idea up my sleeve for the next wedding anniversary!
