This week’s topic might be a bit controversial, the kitchen rug: yay or nay? I know many people would shudder at the thought of placing a rug in this high traffic area that is subject to food spills but a kitchen rug does have its merits. I have used one at our beach house where the basic ‘galley style’ kitchen needed some enhancement (to say the least!). Using a rug in this space has a few features. It provides a splash of colour that links to the artwork and blue and white homewares. It also defines the kitchen as more of a room and less of a walk through space. My kitchen rug was inexpensive, so to replace it down the track if/when it does get stained won’t be such a big deal.
Stripes seem to be a popular choice for kitchen rugs.
I like the fact that a rug also softens all the hard surfaces within a kitchen.
Even a smaller sized mat can still work to add some colour.
An oriental or Aztec style with a darker colour may be more practical.
The washable polypropylene indoor/outdoor rugs that are now available would be a great choice for the kitchen too.
So, what do you think? Yay or nay to the kitchen rug?
