Choosing the right white paint is one of the questions I’m asked most often during new builds and renovations. While there are countless options out there, I definitely have a few tried-and-true favourites. So I’ve put together my ultimate guide to the Dulux whites I love and use the most.
For many of my clients, selecting the perfect white for their walls can feel surprisingly overwhelming. The key to narrowing it down is understanding the undertone of the white. Whites generally fall into two categories: cool whites with blue undertones, or warm whites with yellow undertones. When helping clients decide, I always start by looking at the flooring, as it provides a great reference point for the overall tone of the space. From there, I consider other important factors such as the amount of natural light, the colours of the furnishings, and the tones of any hard finishes in the room.
For a cool and crisp look with a modern edge, I love Dulux Lexicon Quarter. It works really well in an open plan space. I also love this colour for trims. Particularly in homes with white aluminium windows/doors (where there is usually only a ‘Pearl White’ option) and it is a close match for architraves.

An even brighter white option that works well with cool greys and soft duck egg blues, I love Dulux Lexicon Half. These cooler tones are ideal in light filled spaces.

Dulux Snowy Mountains Quarter is a great neutral white option that can be used with either warm or cooler colours. It was the perfect wall colour choice for this project where we had added a contemporary extension to the original Art Deco style home.

On the warmer side and with an ivory tone, I selected Dulux Whisper White in this Californian Bungalow renovation. The colour worked really well with the client’s timber flooring. We continued it through to the original front of the home to complement their darker antique furnishings.

As one their most popular whites, Dulux Natural White is the lightest of the warm whites. It is a versatile colour that works in most spaces and style of home.

One of my favourite whites, and one that I have used in my own home is Dulux White Exchange Quarter. Still in the warmer white family but less ivory than Natural White, it pairs well with blues and greys and gives a subtle variance to cooler accents.

It works well when paired with Lexicon Quarter on the trims and ceiling.

A versatile colour, it is available in Half or Full Strength. This more saturated option gives more depth of colour which I love using in a room such as a bedroom……

……or formal lounge.
