“The design feels beautifully considered but also incredibly liveable for our family.
Every space meets our family needs well, while still feeling refined and calm.”

Surrey Hills Interior Design Project Brief

The brief was to create an elegant home that would grow with a young family, incorporating functional storage solutions, a thoughtful layout and a modern aesthetic sympathetic to the classic style of the surrounding Surrey Hills streetscape. The interiors needed to feel cohesive and light-filled, with materials selected for both beauty and durability to suit family life over time.

Our design direction

Our approach to this Surrey Hills interior design project focused on balancing refined aesthetics with everyday practicality. We retained the original front rooms of the home and designed a new ground floor incorporating the main living areas, kitchen, laundry and mudroom, retreat and master suite. Upstairs, the design accommodated a dedicated children’s wing with three bedrooms, a generous bathroom and a rumpus room to support family life as the children grow.

The floor plan was designed to maximise natural light and create a strong sense of flow between spaces. Storage was prioritised throughout the home, ensuring each room could remain uncluttered and functional. Materials were selected for their durability and timeless appeal, while soft furnishings and finishes were chosen with family use in mind, combining comfort with long-term performance.

Key features included:

  • Light-filled open-plan living spaces designed for family connection
  • Practical kitchen design with generous storage and durable finishes
  • Custom cabinetry and integrated storage throughout the home
  • Hard-wearing materials suitable for a busy family lifestyle
  • Soft furnishings and fabrics selected for longevity and ease of maintenance
  • Thoughtful zoning to balance shared living areas with private retreats

“Every decision was guided by how the family would live in the home day to day. The aim was to create interiors that feel effortless and comfortable.”

Project constraints and solutions

Designing a family home in Surrey Hills requires careful consideration of scale, light and storage. With a growing family and multiple living zones, it was essential that the home remained cohesive rather than oversized or disconnected. Thoughtful spatial planning ensured each area felt generous while maintaining a strong sense of connection throughout the home.

Durability was a key driver in material selection. All finishes and fabrics were chosen to withstand daily family use without compromising the refined aesthetic. By integrating storage into every zone and prioritising practical layouts, the home supports both busy routines and quieter family moments with equal ease.

“The attention to detail and planning has completely transformed how we use the home. It functions beautifully for our family while still feeling elegant.”

Surrey Hills character and lifestyle

Surrey Hills is known for its established homes, tree-lined streets and strong sense of community. Families in the area value quality craftsmanship, timeless design and interiors that can adapt as their needs evolve. This Surrey Hills interior design project reflects those values by blending classic proportions with modern living requirements.

The home was designed to support long-term family living, with flexible spaces, durable finishes and a layout that encourages both connection and privacy. It is a considered response to the Surrey Hills lifestyle, where homes are expected to be both beautiful and highly functional.

“Surrey Hills homes call for an approach that respects their context while embracing modern family living. The success of this project lies in that balance.”
